George H. "Butch" Kemper. |
My name is George H. Kemper, aka Butch Kemper, and I lived on Kindley AFB from
June 1962 through mid July 1963. I graduated from KAFB High School in 1963.
In the Fall of 1962, I started work at SOFAR as an hourly worker with primary
responsibility on weekends to change the paper on the seismic drum recorder
and the tapes on the big multi-channel tape recorders. The electronics room was
spooky on the weekends when no one was around specially if a speaker was left
connected to a hydrophone channel which suddenly became active.
I also did some gofer work on plotting Nansen bottle data on large graph paper
and then drawing smooth line curves through the data points.
I left the SOFAR job when my father was transferred back to the US in the
Summer of 1963.
