It wasn't just the Sealab aquanauts who deserved 'danger money'. The Press and radio men who came to Argus Tower to interview them had a pretty rough ride on Saturday. Jumping from the rope ladder at the bottom of the Tower on to the Navy relief boat was the worst bit - particularly when a squall blew up.

<<--I discovered this short video clip on You Tube within a video titled "Beautiful Old Bermuda and the US Armed Forces who served there.", found on a site titled "Pure Texas Lone Star". There was no contact information, so I was unable to ask for permission to use this clip. The entire video is a series of still photos from various sources, all relating to the US Navy presence in Bermuda in the '60s, particularly at NOB. Sadly (for obvious reasons) there was no film on NAVFAC at Tudor Hill. If anyone can provide reasonable proof to being the creator of this video, I will give them credit here. I am speculating that this is a very early photo of Argus, perhaps during the latter stages of construction, because the radio antenna and crane are not in their usual positions, there are no staircases, and there are no landing platforms. |
